A foreign national can be denied a visa, refused entry to, or removed from Canada if they are found to be inadmissible.

The objectives of the Canadian immigration legislation relative to the inadmissibility provisions are to protect the health and safety of Canadians and to maintain the security of Canadian society.

Inadmissibility could arise from a number of reasons, such as:

  1. Security reasons, including espionage, subversion, violence or terrorism, membership in an organization involved in any of these.
  2. Human or international rights violations, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, being a senior official in a government engaged in gross human rights violations or subject to international sanctions.
  3. Committing a crime, including driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  4. Organized crime, including membership in an organization that takes part in organized criminal activity, people smuggling or money laundering
  5. Medical reasons – this includes medical conditions that: endanger public health, endanger public safety or causes excessive demand on health or social services (some applicants are exempt)
  6. Financial reasons – if you’re unable or unwilling to support yourself and your family members
  7. Misrepresentation, which includes providing false information or withholding information directly related to decisions made under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA)
  8. Failure to comply with any provision of IRPA or
  9. Having an inadmissible family member.

A permanent residence of Canada who is found to inadmissible is subject to removal from Canada. You are advised to consult an immigration attorney for legal advice before submitting an application to Canada.
