David Ibeawuchi is a dual qualified lawyer, called to the bars of Ontario, Canada and Nigeria.
David practices in the areas of Immigration Law, Civil Litigation, Family Law and Criminal Defense. He also administers oaths and other services as a Notary Public.
He has significant experience in representing clients in immigration matters ranging from judicial review of administrative decisions from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) of Canada.
His immigration practice also includes representing clients in their refugee protection claims at the Refugee Protection Division (RPD), appeals at the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) and representations at the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD).
He is experienced in Pre-Removal Risk Assessments (PRRA), Humanitarian and Compassionate (H & C) applications and Deferral of Removal/Deportation.
David is passionate about assisting people who are eligible to immigrate to Canada through family reunification programs and temporary residents who come to Canada for business, school and tourism.
David has vast experience in civil litigation and civil appeals at the Divisional Court and Court of Appeal. He also represents clients at the courts of first instance and the Superior Court of Justice in matters that bother on breach of contract, fraud, insurance litigation and real estate litigation.
He also represents clients in a broad range of family law matters that includes divorce, equalization of property, support claims and custody/access.
EARLY CAREER
David started his legal career as a Barrister and Solicitor in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria after he was called to Nigerian bar. He provided legal representation in matters at the Courts of first instance and resulting appeals up to the Supreme Court.
He practiced as a core litigation lawyer handling election petition cases and a wide variety of civil matters which cut across constitutional law, tort, fundamental rights enforcement, employment and labour, matrimonial causes, company and allied matters and criminal litigation.
He acted as lead counsel in an election matter that led to the disqualification and nullification of the election of a lawmaker in a State Legislative House of Assembly by the Federal High Court for breach of the provisions of the Electoral Act.
He has acted as part of the team of lawyers that represented the Federal Government of Nigeria in prosecution of high profile cases involving misappropriation of funds. David has contributed to the jurisprudence of constitutional and electoral law through several reported cases argued at all levels of superior Courts in Nigeria with judgments to attest to.
He has also advised indigenous and international companies on a range of commercial matters including foreign direct investment, corporate restructuring and corporate governance. He practiced alternative dispute resolution and conducted negotiation, mediation and arbitration to achieve civil dispute settlements and arrive at a win/win.
